Canon has launched its new digital point-and-shoot compact camera in India, PowerShot A1000 IS.
The camera features Canon's DIGIC III Image Processor and has a 10 megapixel sensor, 4x optical and 4x digital zoom, a 2.5-inch screen. It measures 2.46" x 3.76" x 1.22" (H x W x D) and weighs around 155g.
It also offers features such as face detection, and AF/AE/FE/WB sets which automatically sets the focus, exposure, flash and white balance for a shot.

The A1000 IS comes packed with 17 different shooting modes to choose from, and if you're not the experimenting type, then there's an automatic mode which chooses the settings for you.
It also features a Print/Share Button for easy direct printing and downloading, like most cameras these days. Additionally, it allows ID Photo Print and Movie Print with select PIXMA Photo Printers and SELPHY Compact Photo Printers.
This camera has received good reviews from major relevant websites making it for a decent point-and-shoot camera for beginners.
The two-toned Canon A1000 IS is available for an approximate price of Rs. 11, 500 with a 2 GB card.
Canon had released the A1000 IS model in other markets in late August 2008 along with two other cameras -- Powershot A2000 featuring 6x optical zoom, 3-inch LCD screen, and the SX110 IS featuring 9 megapixel sensor and 10x optical zoom.
While there's no official news about these cameras, they are available in the Indian market for an approximate price of Rs. 13, 500 and Rs. 15, 750 respectively; both with a 2GB memory card.
